The Community of Madrid enjoys extended shopping hours. On the one hand, shopping centers and fashion chains open continuously from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., although this may vary significantly from one establishment to another.
Small shops usually start their activity around 10 a.m. and continue until 2 p.m., when they close for lunch. Around 5 p.m. they reopen and remain open until 8:30 p.m.

The Community of Madrid has been a pioneer in promoting freedom of commercial opening on Sundays and public holidays. Since 2012, Madrid has been the only city in Spain where free opening on public holidays, every day of the year, and without time restrictions is allowed.
It also offers a wide range of sales and promotions throughout the year, as limits on seasonal sales periods have been removed.
The Golden Mile
In the Salamanca district, between José Ortega y Gasset and Jorge Juan streets, lies the so-called “Golden Mile” of fashion, where the most prestigious Spanish brands share sidewalks with international luxury icons such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Armani, Valentino or Gucci.
The exclusive boutiques along Serrano, Ortega y Gasset, Claudio Coello, Lagasca, Velázquez and Jorge Juan streets are a must for fashion and brand lovers.
Madrid city center
The emblematic Puerta del Sol, the very heart of Madrid, is also the starting point of one of the city’s main shopping arteries, the famous Calle Preciados. Here, major brands such as Zara coexist with countless small fashion and accessories boutiques for all budgets, as well as shops selling souvenirs and curiosities.
The city center of Madrid offers tourists the oldest shops where they can buy typical and traditional products, while the stately Gran Vía hosts some of Madrid’s most exclusive fashion and jewelry boutiques.
