Mercado de San ANTÓN

Mercado de San ANTÓN

Its origins on the street of Augusto Figueroa date back to 1945 when Mayor Alberto de Alcocer and Ribacoba founded and built it, giving it a character. Later, thanks to the actions of community markets and the support of Madrid, the construction began for the new Market of San Antón in 2007, converting it into one of the most popular markets of the region. The actual construction has three floors: the first is a traditional market under a common theme including 14 posts dedicated the sales of perishable goods; the second, with a cooking show, is food to go and an exhibition hall; and the third is where one can find the terrace restaurant La Cocina de San Antón. The latter, overlooking the fashion district of Chueca, serves traditionally Spanish dishes and newly purchased raw materials from the market. It is also a sustainable project because its skylight acts as a photovoltaic solar energy collector and also recycles 80% of the waste generated. In short, a model of living space with 6,200 square meters. The San Antón market stands as a true temple of quality, an authentic market in the heart of the city of Madrid, it has become a must-see for residents and tourists alike for its importance in the “Gourmet Route” of the region of Madrid. After the tour of the market, the visiting public can enjoy the atmosphere of the streets of Chueca, a cosmopolitan zone with lots of day and night activity. A mix of modern and traditional makes this an obligation for all tourists.
